Samaia’ performs Caucasian songs and dances
Large dance epic “Samaia” will be ceremoniously staged by a team of artists at Shenzhen Poly Theater on Jan. 17.
It was created on the basis of the acclaimed project “Georgian Legend,” in which the performers, male, female and children, present a well-choreographed version of Georgian dance and folk music. It provides an insight into traditional Georgian warrior culture which has preserved its unique attributes and independence for centuries.
In 1999, U.S. producer Jim Lowe and French stage director Pascal Jourdan decided to bring traditional Georgian dances and music to the modern scene. After a year, the first version of the show, then called “the Legend of Tamar,” toured in the United States. American critics hailed the production as sensational, spectacular and a visual and musical feast. In 2001 and 2002, “Georgian Legend” debuted in Europe. It also made a successful tour of France, Switzerland and Belgium in April 2002, watched by 150,000 people. Time: 8 p.m., Jan. 17
