Quartet San Francisco (QSF) will stage a jazz concert at Shenzhen Poly Theater on Jan. 14.
It will play David Brook’s “Casey Waltz” and “Mysterious Widow,” Piazolla’s “Tango,” Armando
Portia’s “Comrade” and selected songs of The Beatles, among others.
QSF was founded in 2001 by celebrated violinist and composer-arranger Jeremy Cohen. Violinist Alisa Rose joined the quartet in 2009, and violist Keith Lawrence has
been a member since 2008. Cellist Michelle Kwon is the newest member, joining the group during the
2010-2011 season.
Cohen’s electrifying jazz violin performances have earned him nationwide accolades. Classically
trained and a student of Itzhak Perlman and Anne Crowden, Cohen’s eclectic style reflects his respect
for a wide range of violinists from Perlman and Fritz Kreisler to Joe Venuti and Eddie South.
As crossover specialists, members of QSF excel in multiple styles — from jazz to tango, pop to funk, blues to bluegrass, gypsy swing to big band and beyond.
Their three most recent albums have all received Grammy nominations and the band has won
the International Tango (New York, 2004).
Since its debut in 2001, QSF has offered its exclusive and ground-breaking art to local, national and international audiences in a variety of venues that include tango
and concert halls, museums and classrooms. In 2002, the quartet began its on-stage collaborations
with tango dancers.
QSF recently toured Japan and Turkey, performing in Tokyo, Hyogo, Sanda and Istanbul.
Recent U.S. appearances include New York’s Le Poisson Rouge, Yoshi’s Jazz Clubs in San
Francisco and Oakland.
